A disk defragmentation software is a program which gives you the optimum utilization of the space in your computer or hard drive. When our computer writes data into a file on our hard drive, it’s not always able to place all of the data together. A section of a file might be written at the beginning of the disc, the rest of that file could be written near the end. Due to this, programs runs slowly because computer spends time retrieving the file fragments from all over the disk. Disk fragmentation leads to system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startups and shutdowns. Defragmenting the disk arranges files and free space in an orderly manner, reducing the time taken to read a file. Here comes the use of disk defragmentation tools and below are the top five among them.
1. Defraggler

I’ve tested many commercial and free software on my pc and once on 3.6 TB RAID 5 storage.
The only two that did the job were Ultradefrag and MyDefrag (older version, as it has had to support Windows 2000 server).
And MyDefrag is my favorite as it has all the options for optimization and avoiding further fragmentation!
Deffragler is the one I use for map the files and see if any small pieces left.
I tired Disk Keeper 15 and it is a very sad decline from Disk Keeper of years ago. It provide almost zero control over what you can do, shows you next to nothing of what is going on, and there is no map to show you what it has done. The trial version FAILED to detect the third partition on my physical drive IN the laptop and FAILED to find any external drive and FAILED to find the SDHC card plugged into the port IN the laptop. Disk Keeper is IMHO junk. I will not pay for a product that can not detect drives or partitions.
My Defrag is probably no longer supported. Last version 4.3.1 was released May of 2010 which is almost 5 years ago. The website doesn’t even mention Windows 8 and the author can not be reached by email which he clearly states on his personal website.
I simply used Auslogics Disk Defrag. It recognized ALL of my disks, was fast, and showed what it was doing. Best by far. Staying with what works.
The remaining two programs have CONS that are frankly not worth the trouble in today’s market. Or worth my extra time to deal with.
